A gem in the Cheshire countryside – The Lakeside Café At Manor Wood, Coddington Near Chester
Lakeside Cafe At Manor Wood – indoor preschool play area
As you know, we are constantly on the look out for little gems where we can have a meet up with our mummy friends. Fortunately, one of our Clued In With Kids Cheshire members recommended that we head out and give Lakeside Cafe a go.
Set within the heart of the Cheshire countryside, this bright and spacious cafe serves breakfast, light lunches, filling meals, snacks and desserts. Diners can enjoy some lovely views of the small lake from within the cafe, and in the Summer months there are a few spaces to sit and enjoy your meal outside. The outside dining area overlooking the lake is cordoned off with clear glass reducing the risk of our little ones taking an unexpected swim! Our toddlers really enjoyed popping their heads out to see a pair of ducks and get some fresh air.
Diners at The Lakeside Cafe At Manor Wood can enjoy a relaxing meal by the small lake in the warmer months.
The indoor play area is perfect for babies and toddlers (max age is 5 years) and contains a number of bright and colourful toys for this age range. Our crew spent most of their time pushing the toy dolls and rocking them to sleep, colouring, playing in the kitchen, and rolling the toy VW Van’s. The baby of the group was more than happy playing with the farm animals and lying on the little play gym. There were a couple of books for the older siblings.
Food arrived within approximately 15 minutes and is all cooked in full view in the open kitchen. At the time of our visit the breakfast menu included a range of breakfast sandwiches starting from £3.50, cooked breakfasts (including vegetarian) from £5.95 and other items such as cheese on toast for £4.95. Breakfast is served until 12 noon.
Staff were flexible over the lunch start time as they saw we were on a mummy meet up with toddlers. Therefore we were able to put the lunch order in at 11.20am with no fuss. The lunch menu included a range of sandwiches and paninis starting from £4.95, jacket potatoes, light bites, and hot meals including southern fried chicken burger at £12.95, steak pie at £9.95, fish and chips at £9.95 and more. Finally the children’s menu included a kids lunch box at £4.95, spaghetti Bolognese and garlic bread for £4.50, fish fingers/chicken goujons/sausages with mash or waffles and peas or beans for £4.50.
The Lakeside Cafe At Manor Wood – Children’s meal
We ordered a chicken tikka and three rounds of chicken goujons between us. The chicken goujons were made with chicken breast and had a lovely tasty coating. The kids portions were very generous and so not one of the three finished. The adults curry was incredibly large, enough to feed two. The only downside is that the cafe needs to update their menu. After ordering a chicken tikka, we were told they had swapped the tikka to a korma, at which point we said ok let’s go for the chilli, for the member of staff to return again and inform us that this was off the menu too. We settled with the korma but then it didn’t come with the poppadum or mango chutney as stated on the menu. When questioned the manager did say she would do them but it didn’t seem worth waiting. We didn’t mind but it was a little disappointing that the menus haven’t been updated so we didn’t quite get what was ordered or what we wanted. Luckily the portion size made up for it.
For dessert, there was a selection of yummy home made treats or ice cream. The brownies in particular went down a real treat; gooey on the inside and nice and crispy on the outside. They were perfect and again large enough that we split two brownies between four mouths.
The cafe (and the caravan park in general) is dog friendly as there are little bowls of water dotted around the grounds and outside on the cafes decking. Inside the café there are even towels to help dry off your little pooch. This makes The Lakeside Cafe a fantastic place to visit after walking the dog and enjoying all the country lanes…..a great way to spend the morning as a family.
The Lakeside Cafe At Manor Wood – Outdoor play area for use by guests of the cafe and the caravan park.
Thank you to our member from Peckforton who recommended that we tried The Lakeside cafe at Manor Wood today. This eatery is a little gem tucked away in the beautiful surroundings of the Cheshire countryside. The cafe was clean and inside theres a large number of toys to keep pre-schoolers entertained, providing a great place for a parent meet up. For the older kids there’s a play area outside which is perfect to burn off some energy and get some fresh air. The cafe and toilet facilities were clean and they even provided emergency nappy bags and associated bits and pieces. The food was also served promptly. We look forward to visiting over the Summer to enjoy a nice latte overlooking the lake!
