Alyn Waters Country Park

Alyn Waters Country Park

Wrexham

Description

Alyn Waters is Wrexham’s largest country park, split in two areas located on either side of the River Alyn.

The Llay side of the park gives families the opportunity to explore the large nature reserve and offers an open space for kids (and the pooch) to run around. There is also a children’s park which, when we visited a few years ago, consisted of slide, see saw and round a bout.

On the Gwersyllt side there is a Visitor Centre with café open from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Fsmilies can enjoy walks alongside the River Alyn, and a range of other walks through wooded or grassland areas including meadows. There are several spots where you can let the kids and the dog get down for a splash in the river below. Near the visitors center, there are a number of natural wood play areas for the children to burn off energy complete with an adventure playground, balance beams, other climbing apparatus and toddler swings. Play areas are on grass or sand.

On each side the terrain is largely flat and paved, making it a fantastic choice when considering little legs and is a good option for pushchair or wheelchair users. Coloured trails can be followed depending on time available and fitness levels. Alyn Waters, Wrexham is also an ideal place to go on a family bike ride in North Wales.

On each side of the park there are numerous picnic benches dotted around the park, play areas and visitor center.

Both sides have a pay and display car park and at the time of publication, visitors pay £1 to park. The Country park itself however is free admission. Tickets are not transferable so if you choose to drive to the other side of the country park you will need to pay and display once more.
