Beaumaris Castle, CADW

Step back in time to visit the largest castle built by King Edward I in North Wales. This impressive 13th centuary castle boasts an ingenious ‘walls within walls’ plan, its just a shame that King Edward II never finished it!

Can the kids spot the murder holes above the gate passage? How about the arrow loops to the side? What other obstacles would potential invaders have to overcome? Feel like the king of the castle with a climb on the top wall-walk (supervision required due to height) for magnificent views of Snowdonia. Have fun exploring every nook and cranny of this ruin by wandering through the wall-passages around the castle, discovering the ingeniously built latrines. The chapel is an impressive sight and budding apprentices can try their hand at castle construction. Enjoy watching the swans and ducks swim on the moat, and get lost in your own imagination playing on the large open grassed spaces within the walls.

The castle is a must see for children interested in castles and fortresses, with an abundance of information dotted around in both English and Welsh in these atmospheric grounds.

Additional information:
*Pay and display car parks nearby.
*Public toilets nearby.
*The site is accessible for wheelchair and pram users but many areas are grassed so provide an uneven terrain. There is also no pram or wheelchair access to upper floors due to the historic nature of the building.
