Bring your families to an impressive Neolithic chambered tomb on the site of a former ‘Henge’ monument. Known locally as ‘the Mound in the Dark Grove’ this mysterious prehistoric monument is one of the most rich archaeological sites in Britain, aged approximately 5000 years old!
The area was possible considered a ‘henge’ at the time of completion but then became a passage tomb serving as a burial monument. Children will enjoy hearing about the discovery of human bones, some of which were even burnt in one of the earliest cremations, which were found within the passageway, along with arrowheads.
