Criccieth Castle/ Castell Cricieth, CADW

With impressive views out to sea, the twin-towered gatehouse certainly would have intimidated prospective attackers back in its glory days. Today a ruin, the castle certainly shows how the fortunes of war are ever-changing!

The ruin provides a great space to spark interesting conversations about the ongoing conflicts between the English and the Welsh, who were the fortunate winners? Why was the castle burned down? How long ago did it serve as a jail on the hill?

Families can also explore the beach where they can admire the castles exterior from a different angle.

Children will also enjoy peering through the telescope (small charge applies) to see Snowdon and even Harlech Castle close up.
