Llyn Brenig is certainly a place where you can escape from the hustle and bustle, even if just for a few hours, offering a great family day out in Conwy, North Wales.

All walking routes offer spectacular views, and there are many walking routes to choose from depending on time or difficulty level.. To the east, you can explore the Clwydian hills and on a clear day you can even see the sea towards Prestatyn and Gronant. Most of the Moorland is located in the Mynydd Hiraethog site, an area of Special Scientific Interest.

Children will enjoy going on the hunt of different animals. If they are lucky they will catch a glimpse at the deer and playful otters. Perhaps families will spot some badgers, grouse and buzzards? Llyn Brenig is also home to some gorgeous red squirrels. Why not go on the Archaeological trail where you can find some unique artifacts left over from the Bronze age. After all, Llyn Brenig was once used as a burial ground! Families will be able to find the foundations of the 16th century farmhouses on their walk which takes around 2 hours to complete and is roughly 4km long. Walking maps and suggested routes can be picked up from the Visitor Centre.

Llyn Brenig is an ideal location for a family bike ride, with 6 cycle routes marked out, some more challenging than others. Alternatively. you are welcome to just make your own way. Bikes and protective equipment are available for hire foor all age ranges. They also have some tag-alongs and trailers if required.

With its 23km of shoreline, its easy to see why Llyn Brenig has been recognised as one of the best top-of-the-water fisheries in the UK. The reservoir offers bank and boat fishing and the lake is stocked with rainbow trout. Fishing is by fly only and permits can be brought at the fishing shop. For the highly adventurous. sailing is also an option. Please contact the sailing club directly.

After all that hard work exploring, it may be time to have a family meal out in the cafe? Or maybe you wish to fuel up before you start? If so, families can enjoy a meal or a light bite with a panoramic view of the lake and surroundings. On drier days dining on the balcony is a must. Locally sourced Welsh produce is used and most food is cooked on site. Llyn Brenig reservoir is a great place to stop for a bite to eat with a picnic too. There is a stream-side picnic site at Pont y Brenig and Bryn Maen has outstanding views of Snowdonia and the Berwyns.
