Merseyside Maritime Museum

Description

Merseyside Maritime Museum offers a free day out for families in Liverpool. Located on the Royal Albert Dock, families can learn all about the rich social and commercial history of the city of Liverpool. Here you can see ship models, maritime paintings, colourful posters from the golden age of liners and even some full sized vessels. There is also the major exhibition Titanic and Liverpool: the untold story, which tells the story of Liverpool’s links to the ill-fated liner.

Take the kids to Seized! The Border and Customs uncovered where children can learn all about the world of a Customs Officer. Explore the dark underworld of the smuggling trade, and the pain staking work of detectives to fight crime, and use their wit to outsmart the criminals despite the clever tactics employed such as how wooden carvings were used to conceal 21kg of cocaine!!! Discuss the issues surrounding fairness in society and why taxes may need to be raised, despite objections from the public including the protests against fuel duty rises.

Fancy burning off some energy? Sea Urchins is a free drop-in play area for families with young children, age five and under. The area is of course maritime-themed with activity sheets and story books for young visitors, enabling young explorers to embark on seafaring adventures without ever leaving dry land! Families can also download the Sea Urchins trail.
