Pistyll Rhaeadr is an enchanting waterfall in the Berwyn Mountains, just inside Wales, west of Oswestry and Shrewsbury.
At 240ft high it is Britain’s tallest single-drop waterfall, captivating all who visit her. Generation after generation take in the spirit and presence of this special place. A short walk from the car park through the gate near the tea room takes you to the base of the waterfall. Here there is an iron bridge crossing the river which takes you over to the woodland walks and public footpath. The top of the falls is reached by a public footpath which takes about 20 minutes.
It’s a great place to explore the Berwyn Mountains and surrounding hills, with many walks to suit a variety of walkers including little feet!
Tan-y-Pistyll, little house under the waterfall, is where our tea room and accommodation are located. Whether taking Sunday lunch, drinking hot chocolate around the log fire in winter, or eating ice-creams and drinks outside in summer, one thing that is always commented on about Pistyll Rhaeadr is the friendliness found here. The predominantly home cooked menu includes breakfasts, sandwiches, baked potatoes and snacks, as well as main course meals and chef’s special menu, with a dessert menu if there is any space left.
