Plas Newydd House and Gardens consists of a small cottage transformed into a Gothic fantasy with stained glass and carved oak furnishings. Today, the cottage contains an exhibition which includes some of the possessions of Lady Eleanor Butler and Miss Sarah Ponsonby, two incredible women who transformed this previously unpretentious cottage into what you see today. Follow the audio tour to bring their story back to life and then take a gentle stroll though their garden and along the riverside where they would have walked themselves. Can you spot the castle on the hill?
Don’t forget to take tea in the tea room located on site (seasonal).
Although there is a narrow staircase to the top of the cottage, guides can show visitors images on an ipad and will happily discuss more of the story so that guests who cant access the top floor will not miss out.
Located not far from town, a visit here is a great extension to your stay in Llangollen. The house and tea rooms have excellent reviews on trip advisor. Guides are informative and helpful, and the food is home made using local ingredients.
