Located at Rudyard Station in the North Staffordshire Peak District, we offer a great family day out alongside Rudyard Lake.
The railway uses coal fired steam engines on most of its trains and is located not far from Alton Towers and the borders of Cheshire and Derbyshire. Our railway is 10.25 inch gauge which is equivalent to half size Narrow Gauge. The trains run whatever the weather and all are covered coaches. New since 2016 is the incorporation of the Isle of Mull Railway engines Frances, Victoria and Glen Auldyn into the fleet.
The lake provides an ideal location for boating, bird watching, fishing, sailing and walking. Rowing boats are available for hire in the Summer along with the sale of fishing permits.
Refreshments are available at Platform 2 Cafe at Rudyard Station at weekends when the train is running. The Hotel Rudyard is located near the Dam head and serves a full range of meals and refreshments as well as providing overnight accommodation. A covered picnic area is available at Rudyard Station. Footpaths run right round the lake and along the old railway track bed next to the Rudyard Lake Steam Railway.
