Holy Island, Anglesey - Day out

Description

South Stack cliffs are located on Holy Island, Anglesey. On a stretch of dramatic sea cliffs families will enjoy visiting a picturesque nature reserve made up of heathland and farmland. From Springtime, the nature reserve is home to a number of different species. The sea cliffs provide nest sites for as many as 9,000 seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwake and fulmars. Other birds to use this habitat include peregrines and ravens.

The kids will love hiring the binoculars and going on the hunt for the different critters that call the cliffs home.

Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the stunning views. Children will enjoy following the nature trails and guided walks are also available. There is even a play area for the children.

Visitors are welcome to enter the lighthouse for a small fee. Famies may tour the former lighthouse engine room before climbing to the top of the lighthouse where there is also a viewing platform to see the various birds and other wildlife as discussed.

There are interactive materials available in Ellin’s Tower with wonderful live images, telescopes and binoculars for you to use. Treasure hunt activities take place during school holidays.

So for a free day out with the kids in Anglesey, North Wales, a visit to South Stack Cliffs could be the ideal family spot to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Additional information:
*South Stack Lighthouse is located on a small island reached via a descent of 400 steps down the steep mainland cliffs. Therefore access for pram and wheelchair users is limited. Slings advised.

*100% of the profits from the cafe go to the RSPB.
*Remember this is an area of natural beauty and so there are no fences/railings around the cliffs so little tikes will need to take extra care.

*Tours of South Stack Lighthouse are organised by South Stack Ynys Lawd Ltd. under licence from the Corporation of Trinity House.
