Step back in time with a visit to this Tudor timber-framed manor house located on the banks of the River Mersey. This rare house was brought back to life in the 19th century and today is a beautiful mixture of Tudor simplicity and Victorian Arts and Crafts’ aesthetics.

Learn all about the homes 400 years of turbulent history. Can you find the priest hole? Why was a priest hole even needed? Learn about the years of neglect the home experienced and the history of the people that lived and worked here.

Enjoy some fresh air with a family stroll through the gardens, and soak in the sights and scents for yourself. Will you find your way out of the hedge maze? The maze boasts 12 gates, 5 bridges, 4 finger mazes, 3 weather vanes and a viewing platform. Why not investigate the Giant Childe of Hale Play Trail? Go on the hunt for giants on this sculptured trail and explore the legend of John Middleton who was so tall that he is said to have slept with his feet sticking out of the windows of his cottage. Alternatively, go wild on the woodland trail and explore the magical woodland area, build a den, take on the zip line, and test your skills at other obstacles such as the wobbly wooden and chain bridge.

Fancy burning off some more energy? The play areas allow children to climb to their hearts content, and with picnic tables nearby, the parents and carers can have a well deserved rest whilst keeping an eye on little ones.

Don’t forget to go plane spotting too! Liverpool’s John Lennon airport is built close by if you wish to take the coastal reserve walk.

With so much to see and do, Speke Hall provides an excellent choice for a family day out.#
